Exploring the Vintage Mermaid Dress Trend....

I’ve always loved a beautiful mermaid style gown. Though, honestly- I've not found too many occasions to wear one.  There is however,  something so stunning and glamorous about it and in truth, what girl doesn’t want to look Hollywood Glam?

Mermaid style dresses became popular back in the 50’s and 60’s but we’re designed and introduced to the world of fashion as far back as the 1930’s. This Retro design has donned many a celebrity since the 50’s.

And the look has stood the test of time. The tailored fit of the dress is designed to flatter and hug your curves to the knee and then flare out at the hem. Sexy and feminine the style can flaunt curves or create the illusion of them. So, it is easily a win-win for many body types.

"The appeal of the Mermaid dress is it's feminine and sexy curve hugging tailored look. "

That brings me to the stunning mermaid hemmed dress I found while walking through the ShopTTB stockroom.

What I love about this dress is that it offers every “pro” of a mermaid gown but sports a shorter hemline and is less formal.  The lace is extremely delicate and trimmed with a thin touch of black.  This version may not be formal, but it packs all the best parts of a mermaid style dress- from a sleek tailored fit that hugs all your best assets to the pretty flare out- tail like hem. In addition, this dress features an empire waist, and a plunge neckline. You could definitely wear a cute cardigan over this dress- such as the cropped cardigan featured below to layer the look, add some color or just as a lightweight sweater to keep warm on a chilly night.

Super sexy and feminine it is a perfect dress for date night, Valentine’s Day, a night out with friends or even a girl’s night. What do you think of the mermaid style?
